I. Software Requirements:

apt-get
ifconfig
iw

II. Hardwares Requirement:

2 Linux machines with Wi-Fi Adapters

III. Check your wi-fi NIC supporting IBSS/Adhoc mode ??

$ sudo apt-get install iw

$ sudo iw list

Supported interface modes:

* IBSS

* managed

* monitor

If you see IBSS in the list, then you can proceed to test adhoc networking.

IV. Adhoc networking..

@Node-1

$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

$ sudo iw wlan0 set type ibss

$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 10.0.0.1 up

$ sudo iw wlan0 ibss join foss-adhoc 2412

$ sudo iw wlan0 info

$ sudo iw wlan0 link

@Node-2

$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

$ sudo iw wlan0 set type ibss

$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 10.0.0.2 up

$ sudo iw wlan0 ibss join foss-adhoc 2412

$ sudo iw wlan0 info

$ sudo iw wlan0 link

V. Adhoc Network – Verification

@Node-1

$ ping 10.0.0.2

@Node-2

$ ping 10.0.0.1

 

VI. Want to Leave Adhoc Network

$ sudo iw wlan0 ibss leave
